The administration of US President Joe Biden is pursuing an indecisive policy towards Russia. This was stated by retired Lieutenant General, former commander-in-chief of the US army in Europe Ben Hodges to the Ukrainian TV channel Hromadske.
To date, Hodges holds the position of a leading expert at the Washington Center for European Policy Analysis. "We need the Black Sea to deter Russia and Iran, and also to protect our allies and friends in the region," the general said.
According to him, the White House still does not have a clear strategy for the Black Sea region. At the same time, Hodges confirmed that Washington is working on it, but has not achieved tangible success in this direction. The general said that today the United States should increase diplomatic pressure on Russia, as well as strengthen relations with Ukraine and Turkey. He also expressed hope that Ukraine and Georgia will become NATO members.
On October 21, it was reported that the North Atlantic Alliance had prepared a "Concept of deterrence and defense in the Euro-Atlantic region", which provides for a set of measures against "Russian aggression". On October 22, this concept was approved at a joint meeting of NATO defense ministers.
Following the results of the first day of this event, the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, revealed that Brussels is considering the possibility of transferring additional forces to the Black Sea region to protect against Russia.
