Russia has not provoked the energy crisis in the countries of the European Union, but it has not done anything to mitigate it. This opinion was expressed by the representative of the US State Department for Energy Security Amos Hochstein, quoted by RIA Novosti.
He admitted that the crisis happened due to various factors, some of which no one could control. Nevertheless, the State Department sees Moscow's involvement in the fact that it did not help Europe cope with the problem.
This is how Hochstein commented on the accusations of a number of European politicians who believe that the crisis was provoked by "Russia's inaction." Moscow denies these accusations: according to politicians, the reason is that Europe is acting "at random" in the formation of gas reserves.

The cost of gas in October approached the mark of two thousand dollars per thousand cubic meters. It began to decline in the evening of October 27, after Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed Gazprom to begin scheduled work on supplies to Europe after gas was pumped into Russian storage facilities. The head of the company Alexey Miller said that they will be filled by November 8. Gas prices fell by more than four percent to $838 per thousand cubic meters (as of October 29).
