Germany will not support the United States in a military confrontation with China. The speaker of the parliamentary faction of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) on foreign policy, Nils Schmid, told about this in the podcast "Merkel's Last Dance" of the Deutsche Welle edition.
He said that the new German government would advocate a peaceful solution to the "Taiwan issue" in the event of a conflict between the United States and China, and predicted the refusal of Germany from military assistance to the American side.
According to Schmid, the German authorities will not support the aggressive rhetoric of the United States and will oppose a potential military confrontation between Washington and Beijing, since they will be able to do "not so much" in the event of hostilities.
"Therefore, what we should try to do is to use diplomatic and political force to avoid a military situation," the speaker stressed.
Earlier, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said about the danger posed to the world by the increasing contradictions between the United States and China. He called on countries to abandon the new cold war, which could lead to a "bifurcation" of the world economy and the emergence of "conflicting military doctrines."
