After an attack by an armed group of people on a prison in the Nigerian state of Oyo, about 800 prisoners escaped from it. Correctional officers were able to quickly detain more than 250 people, and some surrendered voluntarily, but 575 managed to escape and are currently wanted, The Sun Nigeria reports.
During the attack, firearms, grenades and dynamite were used, with which the attackers blew up part of the prison wall. The identity of the attacking militants has not yet been established.
The internal premises of the prison, as indicated by the representative of the institution, were not destroyed.
The detention center in Oyo was built in 2007. It is designed for 160 prisoners, but 907 people were there at the time of the attack. Of these, 92 percent were awaiting trial, and only 64 people were serving their sentence.
In July of this year, in an Indian prison, prisoners were able to escape with the help of salt and pepper. Seven people attacked the guards and threw spices in their faces, then disappeared.
