п»їCollege football Week 3 picks against the spread for every top-25 matchup.
Week 3 of the college football season features the first matchup between ranked teams.
No. 17 Miami and No. 18 Louisville meet in the ABC prime-time game of the week in a showdown between two teams trying to move up the ladder in the ACC. There are nine games involving teams ranked in the AP Top 25 after No. 12 North Carolina and Charlotte canceled their matchup.
We are still finding our bearings with picks against the spread, especially on the big lines. Last week, we missed all four games with spreads of more than 20 points. There are three more of those to pick in Week 3.
Last week: 7-3 S/U, 3-6 ATS.
Overall: 14-5 S/U, 6-8 ATS.
Top 25: 4-1 S/U, 1-4 ATS.
Here are our picks against the spread for Week 3:
Week 3 picks against the spread.
No. 19 Louisiana (-17) at Georgia State.
The Ragin' Cajuns are ranked after a big victory against Iowa State and have covered in six straight games dating to last season. Georgia State is 0-4 all time against Louisiana, but it has never lost by more than 14 points. There is a small risk for a letdown here, but the Cajuns punch through that.
Louisiana wins 34-14 and COVERS the spread.
Tulsa at No. 11 Oklahoma State (-22)
This game was postponed because of COVID-19 concerns, but the Cowboys will finally get to display a high-powered offense that features Spencer Sanders, Chuba Hubbard and Tylan Wallace. Mike Gundy likely saw the big numbers Oklahoma and Texas put up, too.
Oklahoma State wins 51-24 and COVERS the spread.
Austin Peay at No. 13 Cincinnati (No line)
The Bearcats generated a lot of buzz in the offseason, but Luke Fickell has tried to temper expectations. Austin Peay takes another blowout loss here.
Cincinnati wins 41-3.
Syracuse at No. 25 Pitt (-21)
The Orange's offense was stopped cold in the second half against North Carolina, and an improved Pitt offense poses the same challenges. That said, the past three meetings have been decided by seven points or fewer. We're being stubborn here.
Pitt wins 31-13 but FAILS TO COVER the spread.
No. 24 Appalachian State (-3.5) at Marshall.
This is a big opportunity for the Thundering Herd in a matchup between two Group of 5 busters. The Mountaineers took a while to get going against Charlotte, but Zac Thomas will be better in Week 2 behind a strong running game.
Appalachian State wins 30-24 and COVERS the spread.
South Florida at No. 7 Notre Dame (-26)
First-year coach Jeff Scott is making his debut for the Bulls, and they will be up against a Notre Dame team that didn't play as sharp as it wanted in the opener against Duke. Look for Brian Kelly to clean that up in Week 2. South Florida beat Notre Dame in 2011, but it's a different story here.
Notre Dame wins 38-10 and COVERS the spread.
No. 14 UCF (-7) at Georgia Tech.
The Yellow Jackets pulled the upset in Week 1 and will continue that momentum at home despite a tougher opponent. UCF will pull out the win, but it won't be as easy.
UCF wins 27-21 but FAILS TO COVER the spread.
Citadel at No. 1 Clemson (No Line)
Clemson flexed in Week 1 against Wake Forest, and Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne will keep the offense moving for the first half. It's another pick-your-score-game for Dabo Swinney.
Clemson wins 50-7.
No. 17 Miami at No. 18 Louisville (-2)
This line could move in either direction during the week, and the matchup between D'Eriq King and Micale Cunnigham should lead to an entertaining shootout in primetime. Take the over (59.5).
Louisville wins 34-30 and COVERS the spread.

Daily Fantasy Football Week 3: Top Picks, Value Plays for DraftKings, FanDuel.
Featured Columnist September 25, 2020 Comments Comment Bubble Icon.
The Arizona Cardinals' acquisition of DeAndre Hopkins has worked out as well as it could through two weeks.
Hopkins has connected with quarterback Kyler Murray for 219 receiving yards, and that total may skyrocket in Week 3 against the Detroit Lions. Murray and Hopkins should be two of the best daily fantasy football options Sunday, and the best strategy is to pair the duo in a lineup stack.
Further down the salary list resides another potential stack that could save your salary to load up on the best running backs and wide receivers in DraftKings and FanDuel contests.
Quarterback.
Top Pick: Kyler Murray, Arizona (DraftKings: $6,800; FanDuel: $8,400)
Murray's dual-threat ability has made him one of the best fantasy football options in 2020.
The second-year player out of Oklahoma totaled 516 passing yards and 158 rushing yards against the San Francisco 49ers and Washington Football Team. The only concern about Murray's play is the two interceptions he has thrown to counter his pair of scoring throws. He has three other touchdowns on the ground.
Murray holds one of the most favorable matchups of Week 3 against a Detroit defense that conceded 488 total yards in its Week 2 loss to Green Bay. The Lions allowed the fifth-most yards in the NFL, and they have let up the most yards per rushing attempt at 6.5.
The Arizona signal-caller should exploit the defensive weaknesses of the NFC North side and add to his impressive totals.
Because of how poor the Lions have played, fantasy players should feel confident in a Cardinals stack led by Murray.
Value Play: Joe Burrow, Cincinnati (DraftKings: $6,200; FanDuel: $7,400)
The No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft has settled into a comfortable role in the Cincinnati Bengals offense.
Joe Burrow threw for 316 yards and three scores in Week 2's loss to the Cleveland Browns, and he could put up high totals again in Week 3 against a struggling a Philadelphia Eagles defense.
The Eagles were torched for 449 total yards in a loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 2 and have allowed 64 points in two games. No matter which direction Sunday's game goes, Burrow is expected to throw at a high volume inside Zac Taylor's offense.
Burrow attempted 97 passes in the losses to the Los Angeles Chargers and Cleveland, and he has an abundance of targets to pick out in A.J. Green, Tyler Boyd and Tee Higgins.
The other advantage the rookie could have is his heavy reliance on tight ends. He has targeted that position on 21 occasions, and the Eagles gave up three touchdowns to Tyler Higbee in Week 2. Those trends could lead to an under-the-radar stack with Burrow and Drew Sample.
Running Back.
Top Pick: Jonathan Taylor, Indianapolis (DraftKings: $7,000; FanDuel: $6,700)
Arizona is not the only team with a favorable matchup in the late-afternoon window.
Jonathan Taylor and the Indianapolis Colts face a wretched New York Jets defense at home and could run all over the AFC East squad. In his first game in the starting role, Taylor scampered for 101 yards and a touchdown in the Colts' 28-11 win over the Minnesota Vikings.
Since he has the clear edge over Nyheim Hines with Marlon Mack out for the season, Taylor should be a go-to option at running back in most weeks.
Indianapolis has run the ball on 62 occasions compared to 71 passes, and if Taylor remains consistent, that balance should stay in place. He could be in contention for the title of Week 3's top rusher since he faces a Jets defense that was gashed for 182 yards by San Francisco's rushing attack last time out.
Since he possesses a lower salary than most of the top-tier running backs, Taylor could provide high point value at a decent price that allows you to pair him with another strong tailback.
Value Play: Leonard Fournette, Tampa Bay (DraftKings: $6,200; FanDuel: $6,400)
Leonard Fournette played a larger role in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense than any other running back on the roster in Week 2.
The former Jacksonville Jaguars running back recorded 103 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries. Ronald Jones II only had 23 yards on his seven rushing attempts. Tampa Bay may find more comfort on the ground against the Denver Broncos, who allowed back-to-back 100-yard rushing totals to the Tennessee Titans and Pittsburgh Steelers.
Since Fournette appears to be in line for a decent workload, he is worth the salary as a No. 2 running back in your DFS lineups. He is not close to being a No. 1 option at the position, but if you combine him with Taylor, Dalvin Cook, Nick Chubb or others, it could make up for the production lost by injuries to Christian McCaffrey and Saquon Barkley.
Wide Receiver.
Top Pick: DeAndre Hopkins, Arizona (DraftKings: $7,900; FanDuel: $8,500)
Hopkins brought in 22 of his 25 targets in his first two games as an Arizona player.
His 22 catches against San Francisco and Washington are close to double the amount he earned in the first two contests with the Houston Texans in 2019. He had 13 receptions on 21 targets a year ago.
Even if Arizona were playing a tougher opponent, Hopkins would be a reliable anchor of any DFS wide receiver lineup because of his high target rate.
In addition to their brutal numbers stopping the run, the Lions allow 6.5 yards per play and 6.5 net yards per attempt on passing plays.
Combining Murray and Hopkins will take up a good chunk of your allotted salary, but there are plenty of solid value options to place around them.
Value Play: Diontae Johnson, Pittsburgh (DraftKings: $5,400; FanDuel: $6,300)
Until Diontae Johnson's salary increases or his production in the Pittsburgh offense drops, he is a must-play at the total assigned to him.
Johnson only has one more reception than JuJu Smith-Schuster, but he has nine more targets from Ben Roethlisberger. Johnson also holds the advantage in receiving yards and yards per catch over a player who was expected to be the No. 1 wideout by a long shot.
Roethlisberger attempted 73 passes in the first two weeks, and he has only been sacked three times and intercepted once. If he remains clean in the pocket against Houston, he could pick out Johnson on a consistent basis again.
If that happens, Johnson may have the best production compared to his value at wide receiver, which makes him a solid complement to Hopkins or any other top-salary wide receiver.
Tight End.
Top Pick: Darren Waller, Las Vegas (DraftKings: $5,700; FanDuel: $6,600)
Darren Waller will be a popular tight end pick from Week 3 on after his tremendous showing Monday night versus the New Orleans Saints.
Waller had 12 receptions on 16 targets for 105 yards and a touchdown in the win that moved the Las Vegas Raiders to 2-0.
Since Week 12 of 2019, Waller has four 100-yard receiving performances over a seven-game span. Monday marked the first time in that stretch in which he found the end zone.
Waller and the Raiders face a New England Patriots defense that has allowed five passing touchdowns this season, which is the joint-second-highest total in the NFL.
Since he is the most reliable target Derek Carr has in the Las Vegas offense, Waller is worth the start no matter how high his salary may be.
Value Play: Drew Sample, Cincinnati (DraftKings: $3,500; FanDuel: $4,800)
Sample is the perfect low-salary option to complement a roster of heavy fantasy hitters.
When C.J. Uzomah went down with a season-ending injury against the Browns, Sample provided comfort for Burrow in the middle of the field, bringing in eight of his 10 targets for 52 yards. Even when Uzomah was healthy in Week 1, he had five catches.
The Eagles have allowed the most fantasy points and touchdowns to tight ends through two weeks. In addition to Higbee's three scores, they let up a score to Washington's Logan Thomas in Week 1.
Until Philadelphia cleans up its defending in the middle of the field, it is worth taking advantage of with opposing tight ends.

NFL Predictions Week 3: Top Odds, Picks, Projections for Every Game on Schedule.
Featured Columnist September 22, 2020 Comments Comment Bubble Icon.
Week 2 had some surprises. Despite a loss, the Los Angeles Chargers pushed the Kansas City Chiefs to the limit and took them into overtime with rookie quarterback Justin Herbert. The Las Vegas Raiders upset the New Orleans Saints 34-24 in the Monday Night Football showcase.
Before you place wagers on Week 3 lines, take a look at the injury report. Star running backs Christian McCaffrey and Saquon Barkley went down with notable injuries. As premier playmakers, their absences will certainly affect betting lines.
Multiple games will feature unfamiliar opponents between conferences, so you'll have a tough call for those games. Three playoff teams from the previous campaign will try to avoid an 0-3 start, expect to see more urgency from teams in that predicament.
We'll rely the odds from DraftKings with predictions for each game on the Week 3 slate. Also, take a look at our top bets for the upcoming contests.

Green Bay Packers at New Orleans Saints (-3.5) (O/U: 51.5); Packers 27, Saints 23.
Monday, September 28.
Kansas City Chiefs at Baltimore Ravens (-3.5) (O/U: 53.5); Chiefs 30, Ravens 28.
Top Bets.
Carolina Panthers at Los Angeles Chargers (-7)
In Week 2, the Chargers surprised the Chiefs, inserting Herbert into the starting lineup. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, Tyrod Taylor experienced complications from an injection to the ribs for an injury.
Head coach Anthony Lynn thinks Taylor (when healthy) gives his team the best chance to win games (h/t Jeff Miller of the Los Angeles Times ). The veteran signal-caller's status for Week 3 remains unclear.
Carolina must prepare for Taylor and Herbert, which isn't an easy task. Furthermore, the rookie had an impressive outing against the reigning Super Bowl champions, throwing for 311 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Regardless of who starts under, the Chargers have a complementary ground attack that racked 183 rushing yards in the previous outing.
The Panthers have allowed an average of 127.5 rushing yards through two contests. They'll take the field without their best offensive playmaker, Christian McCaffrey. He's out four-to-six weeks with a high ankle sprain, per Rapoport.
The Chargers should have some success on the ground. Los Angeles' third-ranked scoring defense will dominate a McCaffrey-less Panthers squad.
Prediction Chargers 28, Panthers 17.
Green Bay Packers at New Orleans Saints (-3.5)
Anyone who watched the Saints vs. Raiders could see quarterback Drew Brees has lost some zip on his arm and a bit of decisiveness in the pocket. He threw a terrible interception in the middle of the field on a two-minute drive before halftime. That turnover swung the momentum in the Silver and Black's favor.
Brees threw for 312 yards, a touchdown and an interception, but the boxscore doesn't tell the entire story. The Saints offense stalled throughout the second half, scoring only seven points.
Secondly, Brees probably won't have star wide receiver Michael Thomas, who suffered a high ankle sprain in the Saints' season opener. On a short week, New Orleans will battle the Green Bay Packers in a close contest at home.
The Packers defense ranks 10th in yards allowed. Brees may experience trouble moving the ball through the air with cornerbacks Jaire Alexander and Kevin King on the boundaries. Green Bay wins on the road while the Saints drop consecutive games.
Prediction: Packers 27, Saints 23.
Kansas City Chiefs at Baltimore Ravens (-3.5)
Although the Chiefs struggled with Herbert last week, Kansas City isn't the team to bet against with Patrick Mahomes under center. As a starter, he's 9-0 in September.
Mahomes has a 2-0 record vs. the Baltimore Ravens with Lamar Jackson as their starting quarterback.
Baltimore outscored the Cleveland Browns and Houston Texans with a combined score of 71-22. Yet, neither offense compares to the Chiefs' high-powered attack. With speedy deep threat Tyreek Hill, expect Mahomes to test the Ravens' safeties.
Baltimore released three-time Pro Bowl safety Earl Thomas during the offseason after a fight with Chuck Clark during practice. At that position, third-year pro Deshon Elliott will face a tough task in the upcoming contest.
The Chiefs offense should have enough firepower to outlast the Ravens in a tight battle on the Monday Night Football stage. Hill exposes a weakness in Baltimore's secondary, propelling his team to a victory.

USA TODAY Sports college football staff picks for Week 3.
SportsPulse: Paul Myerberg breaks down what the Big Ten's restart means for the college football landscape and why a playoff and title game without the conference involved was always going to be questioned. USA TODAY.
First it was six games. Now it is 10. The amount of games involving college football teams ranked in the Top 25 is slowing growing as the schedule heads to Week 3.
And there's actually a matchup of ranked opponents for the first time, too, as No. 16 Louisville hosts No. 18 Miami (Fla.) in the first big ACC matchup of the season.
The Cardinals and Hurricanes are in the next tier behind favorites Clemson, Notre Dame and North Carolina. In what should be an intriguing matchup of playmaking quarterbacks Micale Cunningham and D'Eriq King, the winner will still remain within striking distance of the top group. The loser will have ground to make up.

Among other Top 25 teams, No. 13 Central Florida travels to Georgia Tech for its opener after the Yellow Jackets upset Florida State on the road last week. No. 11 North Carolina and No. 12 Oklahoma State face in-state opponents Charlotte and Tulsa, respectively.
In what could be the best Group of Five game, No. 23 Appalachian State visits Marshall. The Mountaineers are focused on the New Year's Six race and would benefit from a road win against the Thundering Herd.

Fantasy Football Week 3 Rankings: How to handle Mike Davis, Wayne Gallman, Cam Newton, and more.
Here's what to expect in Week 3.
I've never seen anything quite like the injury situation around the NFL in Week 2, and I've been doing this Fantasy football thing for a decade now. Injuries happen every week, but we lost at least 10 potential Fantasy contributors in one week, including the top two picks in most drafts in Christian McCaffrey and Saquon Barkley. That's going to make this week's waiver wire one of the busiest ever as everyone scrambles to find replacements, and it's going to make figuring out who to start and sit an even bigger headache than usual.
It's a ton to keep up with, and it's hard enough to keep up with everything that's going on around 16 games when there aren't this many injuries, which is why I like to reach out to the Fantasy Football Today team to guide me. Every week on Tuesday morning, we do a survey on some of the biggest storylines and rankings dilemmas of the week. Here's what we're expecting for Week 3, beginning with a look at the waiver-wire options and what to expect from the Panthers and Giants without their stars.
Who is your top waiver-wire target for Week 3?
Jamey: It has to be Mike Davis since he should step into the starting role for the Panthers with Christian McCaffrey (ankle) out. You have to like that he got eight catches in Week 2, and he has 20-touch potential. I like Darrell Henderson a lot, but we don't know how long Malcolm Brown (finger) and Cam Akers (ribs) could be out. If they're back in Week 3, the Rams backfield will again be crowded. Dave: Because I don't have a ton of confidence in Wayne Gallman as a season-saving running back, particularly on a Giants team that struggled to create rushing lanes for Saquon Barkley, I'll tab Davis as the best short-term running back on waivers. Henderson is a close second. Heath: It's Henderson. No, Davis. No, definitely Henderson. Probably. I lean Henderson due to his upside and potential to be useful for the rest of the season. But just barely. Adam: Davis seems like the RB with the clearest path to touches. If it's not Davis, I'm looking at Henderson pending some Rams injury news. Chris: I think the consensus is going to be Davis, who figures to see a lot of work over the next month or so. Davis is no McCaffrey, obviously, but he locked up the backup job pretty quickly in training camp, and figures to see plenty of work in both the passing and running game. I think Davis could be a top-15 back in McCaffrey's absence.
What are your expectations for Saquon Barkley and Christian McCaffrey's replacements?
Jamey: See above on Davis. As for the Giants, I hope they sign Devonta Freeman, because I have little faith in Dion Lewis and Gallman. Of the two, I'll take Lewis based on his expected role in the passing game. Dave: Gallman will work rushing downs and Lewis will fill in on passing downs. That split might actually make Lewis kind of interesting in full PPR, but it's just an assumption of how they'll be used. The Panthers only have Trenton Cannon on their active roster right now to help Davis out, so the hunch is Davis will handle a ton of snaps. I think Davis could work his way into the top-24 running back discussion in PPR for however long McCaffrey is out. Heath: I'd rather have Davis than any Giants, unless Freeman becomes a Giant. Davis could be a borderline top-25 running back with upside if he doesn't have to share. Lewis could be a PPR flex. Adam: For the Giants, I think Gallman could be a flex assuming he is getting the majority of the carries. I'm not so interested in Lewis, and of course there are free agent RBs like Freeman and Lamar Miller looming. And for Carolina, Davis is probably a low-end RB2 or flex for now. He needs to be rostered and potentially started if you are weak at RB. Chris: Figuring out what to expect from the Giants backfield is a much tougher question. First of all, Gallman was a healthy scratch in Week 2, but could very well be the starter in Week 2 over Lewis. Plus, the Giants are reportedly bringing Freeman in for a tryout and could sign him. I'll make it easy for you: In all likelihood, none of the there will be much more than a fringe starting option until one of them proves it.
Which player helped himself most long term in Week 2?
Jamey: Cam Newton. He's back as a top-five quarterback if he can stay healthy. I said that prior to the season, and you've now seen the upside through two games. Let's just hope he doesn't get hurt. Dave: I was probably the last person on the planet who didn't buy into Newton as a must-start Fantasy quarterback. I can't help but be impressed by how well he threw the ball on Sunday. If he's going to keep doing that and be the Patriots' goal-line solution, then how can you not be excited to get him in your lineup? Heath: I'll say Henderson. Yes, Akers and Brown were injured, but Henderson shined. He has good pedigree, and if Akers misses another week or two Henderson may just become a feature back. Adam: Chris Carson is the man in the Seattle backfield and there never should have been any doubt. And as a nice added bonus, Carson has three TD catches this season! He had three career TD catches entering 2019! Chris: It has to be Leonard Fournette, who benefited from a Ronald Jones fumble — technically a Tom Brady fumble, but not in Bruce Arians' eyes — for a big breakout game. Is he guaranteed to be the starter moving forward in Tampa Bay? Not necessarily. But it feels like Arians is looking for any reason to give the job to Fournette, and he may have found it.
Which player hurt himself most long term in Week 2?
Jamey: If you haven't cut Rob Gronkowski yet, now's the time. It's highly doubtful he's ever going to be a consistent Fantasy option for Bruce Arians. Dave: I can't feel confident in starting Jarvis Landry moving forward. The Browns run game is clearly a priority and Odell Beckham has his role as the top target in the offense. Honestly, what's left for Landry that Fantasy managers can feel good about? Heath: Jones is the obvious answer right? We were just waiting for something like this and Fournette didn't waste the opportunity. Adam: I'm done with Gronkowski. The end. Chris: I'm going to go with Preston Williams, who was unable to take advantage of DeVante Parker's injury in Week 1 and struggled again in Week 2, including a dropped touchdown in the Dolphins failed comeback effort. He deserves some time to get his feet under him as he comes back from his ACL injury, but that doesn't mean you need to hang on to him while he does. Parker is the No. 1 option here, and that isn't changing anytime soon, it looks like.
Who are three players you are starting in Week 3 who weren't drafted as starters?
Jamey: Joshua Kelley, James Robinson and Diontae Johnson. Kelley, one of my favorite sleepers, is getting a lot of work in tandem with Austin Ekeler. Robinson has emerged as a standout running back for the Jaguars. And Johnson leads the Steelers in targets through two games. Dave: You mean besides Newton? Johnson, Robinson, and Kelley Heath: Minshew, Henderson, Johnson Adam: Minshew deserves a look against Miami, particularly with Byron Jones hurt. I can't get away from Johnson, and I like CeeDee Lamb in what should be another high scoring game against Seattle. Chris: Kelley, Russell Gage, Gardner Minshew. Kelley looked like a lotto ticket that you might have to wait on back in draft season, but through two weeks, he's tied with Ekeler for the fifth-most carries in the NFL. He looks like a legitimate No. 2 Fantasy RB for Week 3 against the Panthers.
Who are three players you drafted in the first half of drafts who you are dropping?
Jamey: I didn't draft any of these guys in the leagues I'm playing out, but three players you should drop are Gronkowski, Tevin Coleman and Austin Hooper. See above on Gronkowski, and Coleman is easy to move on from now that he's hurt. Hooper has struggled through two games and doesn't look like someone who will be a consistent stat producer. Dave: I'm pretty patient, so I'm not dropping anyone I took with one of my first eight picks who's not done for the year. Maybe the only exception is Jordan Howard. Heath: Matt Breida, Howard, Christian Kirk. Adam: Barkley! Also Evan Engram, Carson Wentz and Kerryon Johnson (even with the TD) are worth considering. Chris: Gronkowski, Emmanuel Sanders, Breida. We could throw Austin Hooper in there with Gronkowski, too. There are just too many interesting tight ends out there, most notably Mike Gesicki, who is a must-add after his massive Week 2 breakout. But I would also drop either for Mo Alie-Cox, Jordan Reed, or Jonnu Smith for Week 3.
Who is your top streaming QB, TE, and DST?
Jamey: Minshew is the free space at quarterback, and you should be adding Dalton Schultz in all leagues. He's more than just a streamer as the starting tight end for the Cowboys. And I'll go back to the Colts DST with the matchup against the Jets. Dave: Minshew, Gesicki, Colts. Heath: Minshew, Gesicki, Chargers. Adam: Minshew, Schultz, Colts. Chris: Minshew, Mo Alie-Cox — if Gesicki isn't available — and the Buccaneers. If the Bucs aren't available, then the Colts or Chargers.
